Download: NCASI Announces Launch of Foundation

Cary, NC (June 3, 2019) – National Council for Air and Stream Improvement, Inc. “NCASI” has announced the launch of the rejuvenated NCASI Foundation. The NCASI Foundation, established in 2000, is a 501 (c)(3), charitable non-profit that supports the research of NCASI and other academic and scientific organizations conducting environmental and forestry related research to promote the sustainable use of Earth’s resources, inform regulatory policy, educate, and optimize operations. A significant benefit of the refreshed NCASI Foundation will be the public availability of its research and findings. This information will likely extend beyond the forest products industry.

The NCASI Foundation has been dormant for a number of years. It is our intention to reinvigorate it, to support new and ongoing research in the public domain which will enable the development of credible, practical solutions to environmental and forestry-based challenges,” stated Dirk Krouskop, President of NCASI and the NCASI Foundation.

The mission of the NCASI Foundation is to foster and support the execution of scientific research to examine the environmental effects of activities associated with the forest products industry and, where appropriate, strive to minimize adverse effects through the development of innovative approaches to sustainable forestry, manufacturing processes, and pollution prevention, among others. The Foundation will actively identify opportunities where scientific research could enhance understanding of the environmental effects of forestry and forest product manufacturing operations. It will develop detailed descriptions of research projects likely to achieve this enhanced understanding; solicit proposals from world class researchers with expertise relevant to the research goals and project descriptions; monitor the progress made in Foundation funded research; and encourage the unfettered publication of results in peer-reviewed scientific and technical journals as well as promote public awareness of the outcomes and implications of the sponsored research. To achieve these goals, the Foundation will seek funding from individuals, foundations, companies, and government agencies.

The affairs of the NCASI Foundation are managed by the NCASI Foundation Board of Directors in accordance with the provisions of applicable law, the Certificate of Incorporation of the Foundation and the Foundation’s Bylaws. Starting on July 1, 2019, Susan McCord will take on the role of Manager for the NCASI Foundation. In this role, Susan will oversee the daily operations and work of the NCASI Foundation. Prior to joining NCASI, Susan served as the Executive Director of the Institute of Forest Biosciences (IFB), a 501 (c)3 non-profit corporation whose mission was to foster the use of science and technologies to create healthier and more productive forests now and for the future.  The IFB closed its doors on May 31st. Prior to her work with the IFB, Susan spent eleven years as the Program Manager for the Forest Biotechnology Group at NC State University.
